Position Overview:

Based out of our Virginia Beach, VA Distribution Center, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) oversees key HR operational functions including employee relations and investigations, workers’ compensation coordination, leave administration, compliance reporting, audits, and temporary employee conversions.  The HRBP partners with leadership to align HR strategies with business goals while supporting employees and managers across multiple locations. This role provides guidance in performance management, workforce planning, compliance, and employee engagement initiatives while ensuring adherence to labor laws and company policies.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented HR professional with strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills who can effectively balance strategic partnership with hands-on HR support in a fast-paced environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Partner with leadership to align HR strategies with business goals.
  • Address employee concerns, conduct investigations, and ensure fair resolution of workplace issues.
  • Support managers with coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to drive productivity.
  • Conduct stay interviews to assess employee engagement and retention strategies. 
  • Assist in workforce planning, including staffing needs, succession planning, and career development.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and support change management initiatives.
  • Promote Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) initiatives to foster an inclusive culture.
  • Provide guidance on pay structures, benefits programs, and market competitiveness.
  • Ensure adherence to labor laws, company policies, and HR best practices.
  • Conduct audits and make corrections for EEO categories, FLSA status, and pay equity. 
  • Administer compliance training programs and track completion.
  • Monitor and report compliance metrics, ensuring timely submissions to regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate and document workers' compensation claims.
  • Gather and organize documentation for litigation related to workers' compensation, wrongful termination, or auto liability cases.
  • Process verification of employment and unemployment claims.
  • Manage and track employee leave requests, including FMLA, disability, state-provided medical leaves, and parental leaves.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between employees and insurance carriers, ensuring smooth communication and efficient claims processing.
  • Maintain accurate records of leave balances and ensure compliance with federal, state, and company policies.
  • Support remote field and distribution center employees and managers.
  • Coordinate distribution center temporary employee conversions to regular full-time status.

The gross annual salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Relevant certifications (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) are preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive HR experience, including roles in employee relations, compliance, and strategic HR initiatives.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to drive informed HR decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand the company’s goals, operations, and industry to align HR strategies with business needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to address workplace concerns, conduct investigations, and foster a positive work environment.
  • Ability to analyze workforce trends, anticipate challenges, and implement HR solutions that drive business success.
  • Partner effectively with leadership and employees to build trust, drive change, and support organizational initiatives.
  • Knowledge of labor laws, company policies, and best practices to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks.
